Hire a Benefit Auctioneer, Not an Auctioneer that Does Benefits
If you’re currently conducting an auction without a professional auctioneer, you’re leaving a lot of money in your attendees pockets. An auctioneer can generate excitement for an item and encourage competitive bidding. Not every auctioneer, however, is right for your event. Consider hiring a benefit auctioneer. Good benefit auctioneers take the time to get to know your organization, your mission, your funding needs, and your major donors. They provide guidance and feedback for your event. Sterling Strathe has over 20 years of nonprofit fundraising experience and started auctioneering at benefit auctions in 1997. As the executive director of a nonprofit and director of a University of Wisconsin program, he used a combination of grant writing, donor cultivation, and events to raise capital. Since 2008, Sterling has worked full-time as an auctioneer.
Sterling brings something most auctioneers don’t have–the highest level of education for fundraising. He has a BS,a MS, teacher certification, BAS Designation for NAA, and advanced training at fundraising seminars and workshops. He is a member of the Wisconsin and National Auctioneers Associations. He is a graduate of Continental Auction School of Mankato, MN and has continued his education with the National Auctioneers Association Accreditation Program. He is a graduate of the BAS (Benefit Auction Specialist), CES (Certified Estate Specialist), ATS (Auction Technology Specialist), and PRI (Pro Ringman’s Institute). Sterling also runs Sterling Auction & Realty Services, LLC, a full service auction company focusing on personal property and real estate. He uses both live and live on-line methods to conduct his auctions.
Anne Hylla joined Fundraising Auction Specialist in 2012. She has quickly gained the knowledge to help organizations realize their fundraising goals by attending workshops and seminars from leading industry professionals nationwide. As a fundraising auction consultant, Anne can guide organizations in selecting best practices and find solutions that work with today’s donors. She is also a graduate of PRI (Professional Ringman’s Institute) and works with Sterling on event night to recognize each donor and make them feel appreciated. Anne is also an auction associate and Realtor with Sterling Auction & Realty Services, LLC.
